Why safe spaces matter
A safe square can protect a token from capture under the rules being used. It gives players a place to pause while considering the rest of the board. However, the meaning and number of safe spaces can vary by version.
Read the markings
A physical board may mark safe spaces differently from a mobile app. Look for a legend or rule explanation rather than relying only on colour or a star symbol. Ask whether the entry squares are safe and how shared occupancy works.
Protection is conditional
Being safe now does not mean the next move will be safe. Count the path ahead and consider which tokens can move after your next roll. A decision to leave a safe square should account for the current position, without pretending to predict future dice.
Playing with friends
Before the first turn, agree on whether multiple tokens can occupy a safe square and whether blocks are allowed. These details can change the available moves significantly.
In an app
Use the specific mode’s instructions. If the app prevents a move, there may be a rule about entry, occupancy or blocks that differs from the version you know. A practice round is a good way to explore those differences before a competitive session.
